A small midtown shade garden takes a departure from the traditional with an elegant dark color scheme in ' Made In The Shade".  Tasteful modern furnishings, monochromatic plantings, dark flagstone and custom millwork give this space it's contemporary feel.

Sarah's House (season 2)

Picture
On Season 2 of the HGTV hit show Sarah's House, Cubic Yard created a fresh modern garden with all the bells and whistles including pool, cabana and lounge for Sarah's mid century back split.
The design took many turns from beginning to end but the result was a perfect blend of both designers' vision while adhering to a fairly strict budget.

Interior Design Show 2007

Picture
An initiative by The Interior Design Show brought three of Toronto's top landscape design teams  (Cubic Yard, Oriole Landscaping and The Beach Gardener) together for IDS 2007 to develop their own distinctive interpretation of urban gardening.  Cubic Yard featured a collection of modern component pieces (planters, benches, tables and floor and wall panels) which could be customized and combined to create seamless outdoor living spaces in almost any urban environment.  Clean lines combined with dynamic colors and backlit lucite details made for a show stopping installation.
These component pieces have become a mainstay in our terrace and balcony installations.

Accolades

Picture
Cubic Yard has been truly fortunate with our media and press coverage over the past 10 years but the true testament of our success comes from the encouraging words of our satisfied clients.
Below is a small sample of what people are saying about us...

Tony Di Cosmo & Murray Mann – Allenby

Terry got the feel of our space immediately.  He was able to take our ideas, articulate and refine our vision, and create a new outdoor living area that echoes the style and mood of the rest of our home beautifully.  We now have the perfect spot for throwing a barbecue for friends or for enjoying a quiet cup of coffee in the morning.  Terry's knowledge, creativity and professionalism, and the attention to detail demonstrated in his work, raised the bar for anything else we may ever want to have done around the house again.

Lisa and Joe Aziz -  Rosedale

“A garden should entrance you into it’s world and nurture your soul.  With Terry’s skilled hands, creative ideas and caring heart, he transformed our visions into a beautiful reality. “

 Leslie Kaufman  -  Riverdale

"What Terry Ryan did for both my front and back yards was truly miraculous! People often stop to admire the landscaping when walking by my house and they always tell me how much they love it. Terry is easy to work with and has excellent prices. He completed the work on time and always took the time to listen to my suggestions and to answer all of my questions. He has also been very good at following up with me. Terry would be the first person I would recommend to anyone needing landscaping work done."

Paddy Hanlon - Cabbagetown

I met Terry through a serendipitous connection at the Home Show.  He was new in town. He changed my life.  I had recently purchased a home in Cabbagetown, which had a pocket garden, or at least the bones of one.  What I had actually purchased was a rectangular plot covered in concrete and weeds. Terry came and conquered.  When he was done, he had designed and manhandled 8 tons of beautiful flagstone and rock into raised beds with stunning foliage, covering the grounds with a mixture of flag stones and river stone, which glistened when wet   The result was a space of great serenity and beauty.  While initially I had a rough idea of what I wanted, Terry created an oasis, with a level of detail, which I never would have envisioned. He created an extension to my home, which, bar none, drew appreciation from anyone who enjoyed it. In fact, upon seeing his work, anyone needing any landscaping, called upon him and all have been happy.  I have since moved to a new house with a conservative mature garden with far better bones than the last place. I’m already excited with Terry’s ideas in his initial consult. He is that good.

Mary Greenle - Ottawa

My garden is wonderful. I live near a hospital and get a lot of foot traffic. People stop to tell me how much they love to watch my garden through the seasons and particularly the unique fence design which was all Terry's doing.

I love that we reused so much of what was already there and I am just  building on the great design.

Angela E. Rae –

"We were delighted with Terry's landscape design and its implementation.  Terry set and met all deadlines for the project and he and his team were diligent, professional and genial.  We regularly receive compliments on our garden from pedestrians passing by."

Terence Van Leeuwen & Pasquale D'Urzo - Downtown

Terry and his team transformed what we thought was a small and not very useful space into the perfect backyard for entertaining and relaxing.  His ideas and plans were very innovative and original.  A job well done!

Brenda Christen and Joe Vescio

We had admired work done by Terry Ryan in the gardens of friends and in magazines.
Cubic Yard Design was our first choice when we decided to "renovate" and rejuvenate  a long tired entrance walkway to our home.
Our house is set back 150 feet from the street with no direct street frontage.  The existing crumbling concrete walk was surrounded by overgrown trees and shrubs that left it dark and hazardous.  The walkway also serves as a right of way for two other houses and as such the design had to satisfy three sets of homeowners.  Not an easy task. In addition we wanted some street presence to assist visitors in finding our home.  Terry and his crew transformed our walkway and gave us presence at street level.  Terry worked with our neighbours to ensure that everyone affected was involved in the process and pleased with the result. He listened to our ideas, helping us decide which ones to keep and which to discard.  His creativity and enthusiasm for the project  helped us to come up with a design that became increasingly beautiful as it evolved. The result is crisp, clean, light filled entry walkway that no visitor ever misses, and passers by are drawn to.
Cubic Yard is back at our home  this year, helping us design and implement more peaceful spaces for our outdoors. We would very much recommend them.
